Research Goals

- Particular chemicals or classes of chemicals as contaminants of potential ecological concern (persistent organic
pollutants, heavy metals, dyes and personal care compounds)
- Particular media as sources of contaminant exposure (fate, behaviour, environmental impacts and risks): soils,
sediments, water
- Ecological risks targeting various ecological receptors as credible assessment endpoints, for consideration in
the remedial actions
- Remedial alternatives: physical, chemical and biological processes

European Context
|
|
The results achieved within the research project will constitute the experimental and strategic base for an international project,
within FP7 framework, entitled: Biopurification systems to reduce point source pesticide contamination: optimization and impact on
the environment, co-coordinator Ghent University Belgium, members from: Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Great Britain, France, The Netherlands,
Spain, where Romania will be partner through the “Gh. Asachi” University Iasi (responsible from the Romanian part:
Prof. dr. eng. Maria Gavrilescu).
It is expected that the results of the project will contribute to the improvement of policies, strategies and practices for
reduction of environmental contamination by persistent pollutants in the member countries of the European Union (EU), particularly in
Romania, as well as in the Eastern European countries.
